Understanding the meaning and significance of a fossil find requires knowing when and where it lived. Professor Beverly Saylor of the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences describes some techniques used by geologists to measure the time since a particular fossil was a living animal. She examines the significance of those findings for 3.3- to 3.8 million-year-old fossils from Woranso-Mille, Ethiopia.
