An article by professor Maxwell Mehlman appears in the summer issue of the peer-reviewed Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics. Titled “Medical Practice Guidelines as Malpractice Safe Harbors: Illusion or Deceit,” the article discusses whether a “safe harbors” approach, in which physicians can avoid liability for malpractice if they adhere to medical practice guidelines, could see any more success than a previous attempt in the 1990s.
Mehlman is the Arthur E. Petersilge Professor of Law in the law school, a professor of bioethics in the School of Medicine and the director of the Law-Medicine Center.
