The Professional Development Center hosts training sessions for �Ӱ���Ƶ staff and faculty on a wide range of topics. In November, the center will offer courses on managing performance, emotional intelligence, resilience, and conflict management as well as a New Supervisor Orientation. “Managing Emotions”

Nov. 1 9 a.m. to noon In this session, participants will learn how emotions affect and influence what we think about and how we think. Being able to harness that information has shown to be an important element of performance. Participants will explore how he or she can more effectively manage various emotional states for increased effectiveness. This session is part four of the Emotional Intelligence Series.

“Evaluating Performance”

Nov. 7 8 a.m. to noon In this interactive course, participants will learn about all of the components of the performance management cycle, including feedback, coaching and evaluation, along with skills around each of them.

“Conflict Management & DiSC”

Nov. 14 9 a.m. to noon Participants will briefly learn about DiSC and conflict management. Then, drawing upon that knowledge, they will discover how the styles might view and approach conflict differently. With this understanding, they will practice adapting their behavior to deescalate conflict and make it more productive.

“The Resilience Advantage I”

Nov. 15 9 a.m. to noon In this workshop, participants will learn about what “resilience” means and how they can create more of it. It takes more than intention. Too much stress impacts thinking and performance and creates conditions in which we can't be our best. Understanding how to manage that space means a healthy, more productive person. Using the science of HeartMath, participants will learn about the role their heart and brain play and how they can respond differently to stressful situations.

“New Supervisor Orientation”

Nov. 27 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will attend several workshops throughout the day, to provide new supervisors with the skills and knowledge necessary to start their new roles successfully. All staff and faculty who have started their first CWRU supervisory role within the last year—including external hires, internal hires and internal promotions—are welcome to attend, whether or not they have previous supervisory experience.

“Improving Your Time Management”

Nov. 28 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In this highly customized workshop, participants will first complete an online self-assessment to generate a personalized report that gives them feedback on their skills as it pertains to 12 different areas associated with managing time effectively. Participants will explore various tools and techniques that can be used to increase organization and effectiveness.

“The Resilience Advantage II”

Nov. 29 9 a.m. to noon In this sequel to “The Resilience Advantage I,” participants will build upon the materials and techniques they learned in the previous session. They will explore several new techniques to build resilience and increase their capacity to react, respond and optimize their heart-brain connection to be more intuitive, agile and innovative.
