You are invited to join the Department of Sociology on Friday, April 26 for “Food Schemas and the Psychic Differential of Eating” presented by Kara Young, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, The Ohio State University. The lecture will be held in Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Community Studies Center, Room 108 from 12:00 – 1:30 PM. Lunch will be provided. RSVP is required.
Kara Young’s research investigates how racial, class, and gender inequalities get reproduced through cultural beliefs, micro-interactions and embodied practices. Using in-depth interviews and ethnography, she explores this question through the topics of cultural production, social capital activation, and food consumption. Her current research aims to understand how inequalities of race, class, and food access shape people's daily food consumption and procurement practices as well as their food related health aspirations.
