Fourteen Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing community members receive highest honor in the profession

The honorees were inducted into the American Academy of Nursing 2025 Class of Fellows.

This year, inductees to the American Academy of Nursing 2025 Class of Fellows hailed from 12 countries, 42 states and the District of Columbia—and ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµâ€™s Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. Fourteen of the award honorees have affiliations with the university, including nursing faculty, alumni and Marian K. Shaughnessy Nurse Leadership Academy Coldiron Senior Nurse Executive Fellows.

The American Academy of Nursing Class of Fellows is often considered to be the highest honor in the nursing profession. Inductees are selected based on their substantial contributions to health and healthcare through their nursing knowledge. This year’s honorees hailed from a variety of backgrounds, including research, practice, policy, academia and industry. The 2025 Fellows were honored at the annual American Academy of Nursing Health Policy Conference, which took place in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 16-18.

Founded in 1973, the American Academy of Nursing was created to provide leadership for the field of nursing and recognize achievements in the profession. Originally founded with 36 Charter Fellows, the Academy now has over 3,200 fellows dedicated to the organization’s mission of improving health and health equity through nursing leadership, science and innovation.

Jennifer Adamski, DNP
Jennifer Adamski Headshot

Jennifer Adamski is an associate professor, assistant dean for professional programs and director of MSN/APRN education and post-graduate flight education at the School of Nursing. A certified nurse practitioner for 23 years, she also serves as an expert witness for trauma and critical care and works on initiatives to create a unified voice for critical care clinicians.

Adamski has lectured around the globe and held roles in multiple organizations, including the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and is active with the Critical Care Societies Collaborative. Her work has earned her numerous awards, and she was inducted as a Fellow to the American College of Critical Care Medicine in 2021.

Adamski earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of South Alabama, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor’s in nursing from Carlow University in Pittsburgh.

 

Christine Horvat Davey, PhD (GRS ’19; nursing)
Christine Horvat Davey headshot

Christine Horvat Davey is an assistant professor at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. Her research looks at the relationship between lifestyle and biological factors and neurocognitive function in aging people with HIV (PWH). 

Horvat Davey engages in international research to improve the quality of life and health outcomes for PWH through the International Nursing Network for HIV Research. Her research publications have expanded the understanding and highlighted the significance of sleep, physical activity and diet in healthy aging in PWH, and she has been cited in nursing, sleep, HIV and aging journals. Horvat Davey’s work has been funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research, the American Nurses Foundation and private foundations.

Horvat Davey received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Toledo, and her PhD and postdoctoral fellowship from ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ.

Jeannie Scruggs Corey, DNP (GRS ’08; nursing)
Jeannie Scruggs Corey headshot

Jeanie Scruggs Corey serves as professor of nursing and coordinator of the graduate health policy certificate program at James Madison University. She designed leadership curricula at three universities, emphasizing interprofessional practice, health policy advocacy and nursing’s contributions to improving healthcare outcomes. Her mentoring of doctoral student scholarship has resulted in the implementation of best practices, enhancing population and system outcomes globally. As a thought leader in Doctor of Nursing Practice education, she spearheaded national research on program practices, founded a nationwide think tank and created a national webinar series. She also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice.

Corey received her associate's degree in nursing from Virginia Western Community College, Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Radford University, Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia and Doctor of Nursing Practice from ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ.

 

Chiu-Yueh Hsiao, PhD (NUR ’04)
Chiu-Yueh Hsiao headshot

Chiu-Yueh Hsiao is a leading scholar in mental health nursing and family health, particularly family-centered approaches in mental health care. Her research focuses on integrating families as partners in the planning and delivery of mental health services.

Hsiao has secured competitive research funding from national and private foundations, leading interdisciplinary projects that bridge clinical practice and policy development. Clinically, she collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, emphasizing the importance of collaborative partnerships in mental healthcare systems. Hsiao is also a reviewer for national research grants and academic programs and participates in national and international nursing associations.

Hsiao earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chang Gung University in Taiwan, a Master of Science in Nursing from ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

 

Randee Masciola, DNP (NUR ’16) 
Randee Masciola headshot

Randee Masciola is an associate clinical professor at Ohio State University and the director of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) education. She is a certified women’s health nurse practitioner and is involved in numerous professional organizations, including board roles with the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health. Masciola is an inducted fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and has won awards for her work in service, education and mentorship. 

Her work focuses on the educational preparation and role of advanced practice registered nurses and DNPs, evidence-based clinical management of sexual and reproductive health, and global educational nursing opportunities. In 2024, Masciola traveled to National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taipei, Taiwan, to provide instruction on DNP curriculum and education. 

Masciola earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science from Ohio State University and DNP from ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ.

 

Heather Rice, PhD (NUR ’12; GRS ’17, nursing) 
Heather Rice headshot

Heather Rice is an enthusiastic advocate for birth equity, women and children’s health, reproductive justice, trauma prevention and mental wellness. Rice works with the community organizations Birthing Beautiful Communities and the Village of Healing Center to address health disparities. She is an active member of several academic, community and professional organizations that advocate for child and maternal health, mental illness and trauma prevention. Her research focuses on neighborhood conditions, maternal health, toxic stress and infant mortality prevention in Black women.

Rice has received numerous honors and awards, including Greater Cleveland Nurses Association Faces of Care Featured Honoree, Top 100 Great Ohio Nurses Award, Northeast Ohio Top 25 under 35 Movers and Shakers Award, and more. She earned two degrees from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ.

 

Laura Rosenthal, DNP (NUR ’06)

Laura Rosenthal is a clinical professor and senior assistant dean of academic operations at University of Colorado College of Nursing. 

Since becoming an acute care nurse practitioner, Rosenthal has been increasingly involved with advocacy and policy for the nursing profession. She served on the board of the Colorado Nurses Association for 10 years as region director, vice president, president-elect and president. She was also the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Colorado State Representative from 2018–2020. She has been active in providing testimony regarding nurse practitioner prescriptive authority at the state level and enjoys meeting with legislators on both the state and federal levels regarding the full scope of practice and nurse safety.  

Rosenthal earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at University of Michigan, a master’s degree in nursing from ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ and a Doctor in Nursing Practice from University of Colorado. 

 

Rhyan Song, PhD (GRS ’95, nursing)

Rhyan Song is a professor of nursing at Chungnam National University in South Korea, where she has taught undergraduate and graduate students for more than 20 years. She has led 24 funded research projects, authored 11 books and 107 peer-reviewed articles, and presented at 41 national and international conferences.

She has contributed extensively to academic societies, serving as chairperson of academic affairs for the Korean Society of Nursing Science and as editor-in-chief of the Korean Journal of Adult Nursing. She serves as associate editor for the International Journal of Nursing Studies. A certified family nurse practitioner and a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Song has played a key role in advancing nurse practitioner education in Korea.

Song earned a master’s degree in nursing from Seoul National University, completed a post-master’s degree family nurse practitioner program at Stony Brook University and earned a PhD from ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ.

Gloria Lamela Beriones headshot
Gloria Lamela Beriones, PhD

Gloria Lamela Beriones serves on boards for the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations, Alliance for Ethical International Recruitment Practices and the World Health Organization’s Global Core of Practice on International Recruitment of Health Personnel. She is president of the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA) and launched the PNAA Mentoring Program to grow Filipino American nurses as nurse leaders.

Eileen Magri, PhD

Eileen Magri is a certified nurse executive and senior director of nursing at New York University Langone Health Long Island (NYULHLI). She was the lead for the Baby-Friendly USA initiative at NYULHLI, the Joint Commission Perinatal Care Certification and the Advanced Perinatal Care Certification.

Earl Dalton, chief nursing officer at Health Carousel, is the president of the National Association of Travel Healthcare Organizations (NATHO) and acts as NATHO’s clinical executive counsel liaison. He is also a member and official spokesperson of the American Staffing Association Healthcare Staffing Section and serves on the Global Advisory Board for the Marian K. Shaughnessy Nurse Leadership Academy, Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing

Peter Preziosi, PhD

Peter Preziosi is president and CEO of TruMerit and has nearly 30 years of experience in healthcare leadership roles with organizations including WHO Academy, Planned Parenthood, Concentrix, the National League for Nursing and more. He serves on the Global Advisory Board of the Marian K. Shaughnessy Nurse Leadership Academy at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing.

 

 

LeeAnna Spiva headshot
LeeAnna Spiva, PhD

LeeAnne Spiva currently serves as system assistant vice president for nursing operations and practice at Wellstar Health System, and oversaw American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition® and Pathway Designation® for four hospitals and ANCC Practice Transition Program® designation for new graduate nurse residency for 11 hospitals. She has 178 publications and presentations reaching national and global audiences.

Paula Tucker, PhD

Paula Tucker is a clinical associate professor and specialty director of the emergency nurse practitioner program at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University. She also practices as an emergency nurse practitioner at a Level I trauma center in Atlanta, and is a member of the CMS Emergency Medicine Expert Clinician Workgroup.
