PBS, Next Avenue: Ian Neeland, associate professor at the School of Medicine, outlined the contours of metabolic syndrome, a complex risk factor for cardiovascular heart disease and type 2 diabetes. “It is important to understand that metabolic syndrome is more than the sum of its parts,” he said. “The constellation of symptoms makes the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes so universal.”
