As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Brian Herrera, assistant professor of theater at Princeton University, will present “The Presence (and Absence) of Latinos in U.S. Popular Entertainment.”
His talk will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Iris S. & Bert L. Wolstein Research Building auditorium.
Herrera is considered an expert on Latinos in entertainment. His most recent book, Latin Numbers, about representations of Latinos in U.S. popular culture, just won the George Jean Nathan Award for dramatic criticism.
In addition to his academic career, Herrera has had a successful solo show about his coming of age as a gay Latino, called I Was the Voice of Democracy. He also writes a blog on pop culture called StinkyLulu.
The event is co-sponsored by Alianza Latina-Latino Alliance, the Baker Nord Center for the Humanities, the LGBT Center, Department of Theater and Office of Minority Affairs.
