Atwood Gaines, professor of anthropology, bioethics, nursing and psychiatry, has been signed for another four-year term as editor-in-chief of the journal Culture, Medicine and Psychiatry. In his first four years, the journal has seen its rank among health-related anthropology journals rise to No. 1. Rankings are based on the citation index and Internet downloads; the latter have increased some 300 percent under his tenure.
Gaines has also been tapped to edit a new book series for Springer Publishing Inc., tentatively titled Cultural Studies of Science and Medicine, which focuses on the humanities and social studies of medicine and science.
