The Supreme Court recently cited two articles by Paul C. Giannelli, a Distinguished University Professor and the Weatherhead Professor of Law.
His papers, “Regulating Crime Laboratories: The Impact of DNA Evidence” and “The Abuse of Scientific Evidence in Criminal Cases: The Need for Independent Crime Laboratories,” were referenced in Williams v. Illinois. The court’s decision upheld the ruling that the admission of expert testimony about the results of DNA testing performed by non-testifying analysts did not violate the Confronation Clause.
This is the eighth time the Supreme Court has referenced Giannelli’s work.
