The School of Medicine will host Julie Louise Gerberding (WRC ‘77, MED ’81) for this year’s Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Friday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. in the Iris S. and Bert L. Wolstein Research Building auditorium.
Gerberding is executive vice president and chief patient officer in Strategic Communications, Global Public Policy and Population Health at Merck and is the former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a position she held from 2002-2009.
Her lecture, “The Power of the Patient: Co-Creating Better Health and Health Care Outcomes,” explores how today’s patients are increasingly involved in taking charge of their health decisions, armed with their own personal health data, insights from the experiences of others and real-time digital monitoring of their health status.
Gerberding will discuss and take your questions about how this evolution creates exciting opportunities to improve health and health care outcomes while presenting new challenges for clinicians, researchers and students.
