The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will offer two upcoming courses at University Farm: “Foraging at the Farm” and “Walking Through Nature.”
“Foraging at the Farm”
Learn how to safely identify, sustainably harvest and prepare wild flora and fungi found in the forests of the University Farms. The class involves hiking through the woods.
Ryan Bennett, Farm Food Program coordinator for ӰƵ’s Squire Valleevue and Valley Ridge Farm, will lead the course.
The class will meet Sept. 9, 16 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Boots or hiking shoes, long pants, water bottles, bug spray and sunscreen are highly recommended.
This course costs $50 for members of the Siegal Lifelong Learning Program, and $65 for nonmembers.

“Walking Through Nature”
This field seminar provides a close look at the plants, wildlife and geology of Squire Valleevue Farm. On field trips into the forest and meadows, participants will observe and discuss habitats and their inhabitants as they transition to fall and prepare for winter.
Jay Abercrombie, an entomologist, will lead the course.
This class will be held Sept. 13, 20 and 27 from 10 a.m. to noon.
No strenuous hiking will be involved, but participants should be able to maintain an active pace over generally moderate but occasionally hilly or wet terrain.
The course costs $45 for members of the Siegal Lifelong Learning Program, and $55 for nonmembers.
