Jerome “J.D.” Kern

Jerome “J.D.” Kern has enjoyed over 25 years in accounting and finance. He is currently Vice President and Controller of ArriVent Biopharma, a clinical-stage pharmaceutical development company focused on finding new oncology drugs. His experience spans roles in management, finance, accounting, valuation, audit, and communications. His background includes a wide range of organizations, including Fortune 100 companies and both privately held and private equity backed companies. Throughout his career, he has worked in a diverse set of industries, including biotech, transportation, consumer packaged goods, and software.

He began his career in Chicago at Deloitte & Touche LLP. Mr. Kern has received both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in accounting from The University of Texas at Austin. He is a licensed C.P.A. in New Jersey.

Mr. Kern’s research interests are centered on a question: Why do people make unethical decisions? He believes that a deeper understanding of this question could lead to improvements in literally every aspect of human interaction. Mr. Kern will be looking at these ethical choices in the context of the business world because he believes that business has the potential to be a force for positive change in the world. He further believes that management can be an honorable profession consisting of ethical leaders. With these two beliefs, Mr. Kern hopes that his research can help these leaders produce a better world for everyone.
