Welcome to HEAL at ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ. HEAL is at the forefront of applying advanced geospatial technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning to unravel the complex connections between our environment, social factors, and health outcomes. Led by researchers with deep expertise in geography, geographic information science (GIScience), and computational methods, our program is developing innovative approaches to address pressing public health challenges, understand health disparities, and providing solutions that HEAL!

Our Mission & Approach

At HEAL, our mission is to develop and deploy robust spatial AI-driven methodologies to investigate complex environmental and socio-economic determinants of disease. We harness the power of emerging big geospatial data sources – including high-resolution satellite imagery and street-level views – combined with cutting-edge deep learning models and statistical analysis.

We strive to:

  • Uncover novel insights into how the built and natural environment influences health, particularly cardiovascular and cardiometabolic conditions.
  • Bridge the gap between complex geospatial data, AI-driven analytics, and actionable health knowledge.
  • Foster multidisciplinary collaborations with health researchers, clinicians, and data scientists to tackle health problems from multiple angles.
  • Translate our findings into tools and insights that empower public health officials, urban planners, and healthcare providers to promote health equity and design healthier communities.
