Protect your device and digital information

As Cybersecurity Awareness Month comes to a close, members of the ӰƵ community are encouraged to focus on securing devices they use every day—phones, laptops, tablets and smartwatches—which carry sensitive university and personal data.

To prevent threats and improve security measures, users are encouraged to:

  • Keep their devices updated.
  • Use strong passwords or passphrases that are long and unique.
  • Use fingerprint or face unlock when available.
  • Turn on screen locks.
  • Avoid public Wi-Fi for private tasks.
  • Use secure networks or a VPN when accessing university systems.
  • Turn on encryption, which helps protect personal data if a device is lost or stolen.
  • Download mobile applications from trusted sources, such as the App Store or Google Play.
  • Check application permissions.
  • Use mobile security tools, if supported by device.

To report phishing, users can use the “Report Phishing” button in an Outlook or Gmail toolbar or forward suspicious emails to help@case.edu
