The Graduate Research Commons (GRC) is a room accessible to graduate students, post-docs, and faculty on the second floor of Kelvin Smith Library. This space aims to encourage conversation and research collaboration, as well as serving as a quiet study space. It is available for use during staffed service hours and is not accessible during overnight access.
The GRC contains tables, ergonomic chairs, casual seating, and mobile whiteboards for patron use. Relaxation tools and board games are also available.
For selected circumstances, the room may be reserved for events that enhance graduate student research and learning. To inquire about reservations, please contact the Library Administration office at (216) 368-2992 or email ksl-mail@case.edu.
Graduate Study Carrels
Graduate students seeking a quiet, dedicated space for research may apply each fall semester for an assigned study carrel at Kelvin Smith Library. Carrels are located on the first and third floors and are designed for individual use. Each includes two lockable storage cabinets for personal materials.
Carrels are assigned for the full academic year, which includes the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Keys must be returned by the second Friday in August, and earlier deadlines apply for December and May graduates.
Students selected through the Graduate Study Carrel Selection Process will be notified by email and must pick up their keys from the Library Administration Office within two weeks. Any carrels that remain unclaimed or unassigned will be offered to students on the waitlist.
